Tendring’s Community Safety Partnership has extended a Public Spaces Protection Order in Clacton town centre.

The original Order, which has been in place since July 2016, has been amended slightly to deter individuals or groups of people loitering in the restricted area of the town centre and the Waterglade Retail area, and also includes young people under the age of 16.

An amendment has been made to allow the use of enforcement powers within the designated area to prevent the use of illegal substances.

There are a range of powers that can be used to deal with any breaches within the specified area including issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices and Community Protection Notices.

The extension runs from the 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2020. New signs stating the restrictions in the designated area have been put up.

PSPO’s were first introduced in October 2014 under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act and allow councils to ban any activity they believe to have a detrimental effect on quality of life.
